    Hi,

I am a very large and tall man. 6′ 7″ (2m). As getting nice clothes is very expensive and frustrating experience. I have decided to look into making my own. But I am finding it difficult to find patterns big enough. Can anybody provide any tips or suggestions to help me? Please bear in mind I am a total beginner to clothes making. The full extent of my sewing experience consists of darning socks.

It’s awesome that you want to start making your own clothes 🙂 If you’re having trouble finding patterns, you can always make your own patterns from clothes you already own. If you like them and they fit, it’s a great place to start. You can see me do an example with my own shirts here: https://www.professorpincushion.com/professorpincushion/how-to-create-patterns-from-existing-clothing-simple-tops/
    and here: https://www.professorpincushion.com/professorpincushion/how-to-make-patterns-from-existing-clothing-intermediate-tops/
Granted, my examples may be a bit different than what you own but you can see how I break down an existing garment to its basic elements, without taking it apart.
If you do want to get into patterns, you can do pattern grading. We don’t have a tutorial on this yet, but you’re taking one size pattern and grading it up to create a larger size. There’s a good article about it here: http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4368/making-sense-of-pattern-grading/page/all
Also, consider starting with a small, simple project like making pillows so you can get comfortable with sewing before trying something more complex.
