Do you love to do quick home decorating projects? Does your table need a little dressing up? Making placemats are a perfect project for beginners and for people looking for a quick, easy project. They're also an economical way to liven up your dining room table since they don't take much fabric. Plus, being reversible, you can easily flip them over to change the look. If you use 100% cotton and prewash it before making your placements, you'll make them perfectly washable for those times when they just need a good cleaning. With all the cute fabric available out there, there's no reason you shouldn't make your own placemats.
Please note, you can make your placemats any size or shape. Mine is the standard rectangle with a finished size of 12" X 18". So I start out with each piece being 12 1/2" X 18 1/2" to account for the 1/4" seam allowance.
You’re an excellent teacher!! Thank you for showing me the easy way to sew…I have watched quite a few videos, and some of them were easy to understand for a newbie, but a lot of them were confusing…
Yes, you can definitely use sew-in interfacing instead 🙂
I have sew in interfacing. Could I use that instead of fusable?
This is great! I’m making this ASAP!
You can if you want. I’ve tossed mine in the washer and dryer since creating this tutorial and, besides coming out a little wrinkly, they were not separated and seemed fine.
You do a wonderful job!! Thank you…your videos make me want to sew!!
Shouldn’t the placemat have some kind of quilting? There is nothing to hold the fabrics together in the middle of the placemat.
I would like to be able to save your tutorials as PDFs to view at my leisure and print out to make the project.
