One method for installing a zipper is the Centered Zipper Method.  It involves placing the zipper in the middle of your back seam and when that seam is removed, your zipper will appear and will be ready for use.  While putting in a zipper may seem a little intimidating to those who are new to sewing, it's actually very easy.  Once you learn this method, you won't be so afraid to turn down patterns that employ zippers.  Zippers are a great way to creating more fitted, stylish garments.
