I am very new to sergers. I saw a video where a lady is making a simple zipper bag with her serger and she just serges right over the tails on a nylon zipper allowing both the blades to cut it and the needle to hit it. It didn’t seem to bother the machine but I was wondering if this is a standard practice or if it is a bad idea. She was using a higher end home serger not an industrial/commercial unit. Thoughts?

hmmm…I don’t have a serger so I can’t answer for sure. If it’s just the zipper tape then it should be fine, no problem, but going over the zipper teeth, I would have some reservations and wouldn’t recommend. I know my machine needles don’t like it so it’s probably not a good idea.
