    I m cutting out some flannel and some Madras cotton. Both are unraveling or raveling (not sure which is happening) on the cut edges. I have read that an overcast stitch will prevent that from happening. Can I overcast all of the the cut pieces and then join them into the garment per the directions? It makes it hard to follow the cut edges when sewing because the edge threads stick out and are not even. It’s driving me crazy!

    yes, you can! It’s definitely something I recommend, especially with annoyances like this. The other benefit is that your seams are already finished when you sew them together so you’re really just getting it out of the way at the beginning. 🙂
