Whether you need it for practical purposes or you want to add a bit of style, a slit seam is a cool effect to add your garments. This can be done to the bottom of sleeves, skirts, shorts, pants, and really almost anything. It's also easy to take an existing pattern and alter it so that a slit can be added to your seam. This video demonstrates not only how to alter the pattern but also goes through the process of sewing a slit seam. All you need is your pattern, a bit of tissue paper, and some measurements. The measurements include the pattern's seam allowance and also the length you want the slit to be, being sure to also take into account the hem allowance at the bottom. The slit seam can either be dramatic or subtle but it always makes for an interesting detail in your garments.
