Whenever I buy a new pattern, I always get excited right away as I imagine how my new creation will turn out and I eagerly build it as quickly as I can so I can try it on. You don’t get that with ready-to-wear clothes because there’s no effort on the wearer’s part in the creation of it. Sewing, on the otherhand, is nothing but effort, therefore, the reward of trying it on is so much greater. I really felt this while making Simplicity pattern 2172. Not only was I creating something different than what I normally created, but I absolutely could not wait to wear it. Putting on this dress, with the jewelry, makeup and being able to incorporate the pocket watch that belonged to my grandfather, felt amazing. I can definitely see why people who dress in the steampunk style have so much fun.
So we have, for you, tutorials for this entire ensemble. If you want to make this steampunk delight for cosplay, Halloween, or just for fun, then you’ll want to check out our tutorials. We walk you through, step by step, showing you all the ropes of creating the coat, bustier, and skirt. Each one is its own separate tutorial so we make it easy if you just want to learn just one aspect of the pattern, but I think, once you get started, you won’t stop till it’s complete.
I would not recommend attempting this pattern if you’ve never done a commercial pattern before. Simplicity definitely has a lot of easy, learn to sew patterns that are great for beginners. We even have a tutorial on one for Simplicity pattern 2147. But if you have tackled a commercial pattern before, I know you can do it and we’re here to help.
Simplicity Pattern 2172 is available on the Simplicity site.
