Elastic is a strip of rubber covered in nylon, polyester, or cotton that stretches and is found in the notions department. When learning to sew garments it's one of the first fasteners beginners learn to work with, because it's easy to use especially for creating waistbands. Plus, it's flexible in its fit. But though this notion is considered beginner friendly, it doesn't mean that picking out the right elastic is a cake walk.
