When sewing garments, sooner or later, you're going to be asked to create a dart. Darts can be found in the bodice, skirt, pants, and even sleeves. While it seems complicated, it's actually a simple sewing technique. The purpose of the dart of is to create shape in the garment. Our bodies have curves and isn't flat. Therefore, it makes sense that we take a flat piece of fabric and manipulate it to create shape as well to fit our body better. Otherwise, things could look very sack-like and ill-fitting. In order to create a dart, you're basically pinching the middle of a fabric piece together and then sewing along one side.
