You may be able to get away with it on some patterns. I know some patterns have a diagram on the back of the pattern telling you how much it should stretch. For example, maybe a 4″ strip should be able to stretch to 7″. By doing this test, it’s the only way to know for sure on a particular pattern. If you’re willing to maybe try knit again, I would suggest going with an interlock knit. This knit is usually thicker than other knits, it doesn’t roll, and I find it pretty easy to work with. I sew it on my machine with a zig zag stitch and it always seems to go well for me. Good luck!
