Yes, for the basic pants, the waistline is higher, coming up to a little above the belly button, but have no fear as you can definitely adjust this to make it more comfortable for you. If you want to lower the waistline, measure down on your pattern waistline about 2 or 2 1/2″ and make a new line. This will be your new lowered waistline. On the side seam, you’re going to bring it in the hip curve at the waistline about 1/4″ just to take out some of the ease and make it fit better. Our tutorial Lowering a Skirt Waistline shows a similar process. You may have to adjust your waistband pattern. Don’t forget to make a muslin to see if this works out better for you.
