professorpincushionI’m not saying you can’t do this but I think the reasoning behind is is that armholes and necklines are curves. If you were to think of a circle, the outside of the circle has the biggest circumference and that circumference shrinks as it gets closer to the center of the circle. Therefore, if I’m folding over the edges of the circle, now I’m trying to fit a larger circumference into a smaller area. An armhole curve is concave so it’s the opposite issue: a smaller circumference trying to cover a larger area. What’s going to happen is the area might not lay flat. And with facings, they always add interfacing so it’s also adding stabilization to the area. Hope that helps.
