It may just be me, but I don't think you can really go wrong when it comes to vintage fashion. The lines in this dress are absolutely classic for the the 1940's and even though it's a style that doesn't show much skin, it's extremely flattering and still sexy. There are so many great details to this dress. You have the decorative buttons, the gathering in the front, the pleats in the skirt. Wearing this dress will surely get the wearer a lot of compliments.
What I love about Simplicity pattern 1777 is that it isn't a modern pattern with some vintage elements. This pattern is actually one of their 1940's patterns that they have reprinted with the added ease of modern sizes and modern directions. So now any one of us can easily replicate this amazing dress without dealing with the vintage, and possibly fragile, original pattern. It really is the best of both worlds.
What I also like is that you really have several options in making this retro dress unique. View B shows that it has a different color for the front panel but this panel is a separate piece in View A dress as well. As a result, you can make this front panel different than the rest of the dress for both views. Also, you're free to choose whether or not to do the 3/4 sleeves or the full length sleeves for your dress as it is the same pattern, you just choose your cutting line. The buttons you choose can also make the dress. You can do something subtle or do something that really stands out. I just love it all.
