Hi guys, I’m new to sewing and getting started is quite intimidating. Don’t own or know how to use a sewing machine but I would love help from those of you who understand my dilemma. Looking forward to becoming a pro.

Good morning everyone, hope all had a wonderful Easter I just began to sew and i am loving it. I am a first time Grandma , and so very excited about sewing little dresses for my Granddaughter. She is a size 2T and I’ve sewed a couple of easy dresses, and they came out really good for my first time. Now I am on another dress that requires a yoke,…[Read more]

    Hi!

Thanks so much for this website! The Jersey Knit video was super helpful! I wanted to ask if you can please guide me on what is the best way to attach some kind of a fringe or ribbon to stretchy jersey knit fabric?

Is it a good idea to let the tape of the fringe show, or is there a nicer way to hide it?

I was thinking of possibly making…[Read more]

Hi everyone, Chi here, new member. This site is sooo awesome. I’m so glad I came across it. I was viewing ”making a baby onesie” when I decided to be a part of this community. I sew on binges but would love to find more fun reasons to jump back into the hobby. I’m pretty much a novice at it only because I binge sew and do small projects as needed.…[Read more]

Hi! I am a beginner as well and am well surprised at how much I like sewing. My plan is to learn how to sew garments. I made my first skirt by watching you tube vids and just trying, lol. It was trial and error and a few misunderstandings, but I managed to work out the kinks and I think I did ok, but hopefully with practice I will get better. This…[Read more]

I have three Victorian stage costume dress overcoats that have a small smock over the shoulders arriving soon. My wish is to rip the seams from the armholes underneath the short smocking and put small zippers in the armholes so it can be worn as a short sleeve or a long sleeved as designed, because of the warm weather in the tropics where I…[Read more]

I have the exact same problem! I live in Pennsylvania and the summers can get really hot, so I’m limited on when I can wear my renaissance costume which is long sleeve as well. If you did zippers, wouldn’t the ”teeth” from the zipper show?

I have several corsets that still have grommets, laced with 1 inch silk ribbons which is ridiculous and I have to replace with 2-3 inch ribbons for added back and ribcage support. I am turning those corsets into Ren Fest gowns or classic evening wear. Some of the corsets I have now with all the trimming have side zippers that are practically…[Read more]

Remove the sleeve, then finish both bodice and sleeve with WIDE bias binding and top stitch in place very close to both edges of the binding. Sew eyelets (preferably by machine) with a matching thread around the bodice arm and the sleeve, making sure they line up. Then you could either use leather lacing or create your own lacing with fabric that…[Read more]

Looking forward to meeting new sewing novices even at an old age of 54!!! I am interested in sewing custom costuming, corsets and waist cinches, poets shirts and period costumes such as Victorian and Edwardian. Alterations of all kinds, of course, and machine embroidery (when I can afford a machine like that!), beading, and pattern design or…[Read more]
